Indian cuisine: the secrets of the masala dabba (spice box), chutney recipes inspired by the famous novel

Featuring the BotanicArt community

At Dubniczay Palace’s special literary and gastronomic event, Salman Rushdie’s novel Midnight’s Children (1981) comes to life through Indian spices, scents, and flavors. Participants will learn the secrets of the masala dabba, the traditional Indian spice box, as well as special chutney recipes inspired by the novel. During the program, food is not only a culinary experience but also a memory, a story, and a symbol: just as the novel’s protagonist, Saleem, tries to preserve his past with his own chutneys, so too do we recall, through flavors sealed in jars, the potential connections between Indian and Hungarian culture.
