Introduction

The Benedek Hill shelter in Veszprém is a unique underground facility that was built during World War II for civil defense purposes. The shelter, which was constructed using mining techniques and has three entrances, could provide refuge for several hundred people. Benedek Hill itself is of historical significance: archaeological excavations, the remains of a medieval chapel, and monuments testify to the rich past of the area.

Location & Accessibility

The shelter is located in the continuation of the Vár in Veszprém, in the heart of Benedek Hill. Its only public entrance is on Tobak Street. For those arriving by car, the nearest parking lot is at the Historia Garden, a 5-minute walk from the venue. By public transport, it can be reached on foot in about 20 minutes from the Veszprém bus station, The nearest local stops are the rarely served "Pajta utca / Kabóca Bábszínház" and the more frequently served "Patak tér (Veszprém ZOO)".

The facility is managed by the Hajagi Természetvédő és Szabadidő Egyesület, and can only be visited on guided tours and on special occasions.
