Young Bassanio asks his best friend, Antonio, for a major loan so he can sail to Belmont and ask for the hand of beautiful and wealthy Portia. However, Antonio cannot help his friend, so they strike a deal with Shylock, the Jewish moneylender. He has only one condition: if Antonio cannot repay the loan on time, he may cut a pound of flesh from the merchant’s body…
