On the occasion of the Days of Cultural Heritage, Dubniczay Palace in Veszprém invites visitors on a special cultural journey. In the exhibition space set up in the palace’s Baroque sala terrena, the southern part of Japan— subtropical Ryukyu Islands come to life. The exhibition features zoologist Dr. Zoltán Korsós, former Director gGneral of the Hungarian Natural History Museum, who will lead a guided tour highlighting the most exciting moments of the expedition.

Dr. Zoltán Korsós spent three years in the Ryukyu Islands between 2009 and 2012 at the invitation of Ryukyu University in Okinawa. He visited 53 of the 60 inhabited islands while studying the biology of soil-dwelling millipedes. He first shared his unique experiences on his blog and later in his book. This long-awaited volume brings us closer to a distant, almost unknown world—its local people, isolated cultures, and exotic, rare wildlife.

From the 50,000 photographs taken during the expedition, half were selected to create a photo exhibition that offers a narrow cross-section of the archipelago photography exhibition that captures the archipelago’s unique character, which was realized with the support of the Hungarian Natural History Museum. The project has received the “Bicentennial of Photography” designation from the French Ministry of Culture, making it part of the official international series of commemorative events.
